NRA Basic CCW
NRA-Certified Training

This instructor-led course teaches the fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitude required to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense. It’s designed for all experience levels and is conducted in both a classroom and range environment over multiple days. The curriculum includes firearm safety, pistol selection, drawing from concealment, safe storage, mindset, and cleaning.
Upon completion, students receive a certificate recognized under NY Penal Law 265.00(19).

The course features 11+ hours of in-depth instruction, covering:
• Firearm safety and storage
• Pistol and ammunition knowledge
• Drawing, reloading, and stoppage drills
• Mental preparedness and legal aftermath of self-defense
• Concealment strategies
• Cleaning and maintenance
Each section concludes with hands-on practice and evaluation. A written exam (90% passing) ensures mastery of material.

This portion (5 hours) meets NY CCIA compliance and covers:
• NYS & federal firearms law (Articles 265 & 400)
• Secure storage/transport rules
• Restricted/sensitive locations
• Use of deadly force & duty to retreat
• Suicide awareness & prevention
• Conflict management
Completion of this section satisfies the legal education requirement for NY CCW permits.

Live-fire training includes 2 hours on the range with drills from the NRA CCW appendices.
Students must:
• Demonstrate proper draw, re-holstering, and safety checks
• Fire 5 rounds from 4 yards (80% on target required)
• Execute safe firearm loading/unloading
This portion fulfills the NYS live-fire proficiency requirement for pistol licensing under CCIA.
